Licence
Capopedia's genealogy data and texts are open: use, share and adapt them, with attribution.
Capopedia's genealogy is published by Aldeia IT PLLC, the licensor and copyright holder. Anyone may use, share and adapt it, including commercially, under the terms below.
The data: ODbL 1.0
The structured database and the data the public API returns (people, groups, events, places, institutions, relationships, locations, dates and citation details) are licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0, and their individual contents under the Database Contents License (DbCL) 1.0.
A copy or adaptation of the database must stay under the ODbL. Every JSON response of the public API carries this licence in its license field, and the CSV export links to this page.
The texts: CC BY-SA 4.0
The published prose, meaning the biographies, story text and reports on Capopedia's pages, is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0). Adapted text must stay under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Attribution
Every reuse must carry this notice, linked to this page:
Data: Capopedia (capopedia.xyz), © Aldeia IT PLLC, ODbL 1.0 / text CC BY-SA 4.0
Works you produce from the data, such as posters, maps, articles or apps, may carry any licence you choose, as long as they carry the notice.
What is not covered
The citations quote books, articles, interviews and websites written by others. Those quotes belong to their authors and are not licensed by us; only the citation details (which source, and where in it) are. Images are not covered by this licence either.
Place names and coordinates include information from OpenStreetMap, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL), and GeoNames data, CC BY 4.0. Their attributions travel with that data and must be kept when you reuse it.
Privacy comes first
The licence covers only what Capopedia publishes, and it never overrides our privacy rules. Every record passes them before it is published or exported: living people are shown with fewer details, and some records are not published at all. See Privacy and removal requests.
